H. 673 An Act relative to healthy youth

When public schools provide sexuality education, it should be done responsibly: it should be comprehensive, medically accurate, and age-appropriate in order to help them form healthy relationships, develop strong communications skills, and make healthy decisions. This bill would ensure that school districts that choose to offer sexuality education provide young people age-appropriate, medically accurate information and include information about both abstinence and contraception. This bill would leave the choice up to the parents, about whether their children participate in school-based sexuality education. This bill will not require schools to provide sexuality education, and it will not remove discussion of the benefits of abstinence from sexuality education. This bill also would not interfere with parents’ right to opt their children out of participating in sexuality education programs.
